What Exhaust Problems Actually Look Like
The loudest shops on the internet will tell you every exhaust problem is a catalytic converter. Most of them aren't. A converter is a $800–$2,500 part; the upstream O2 sensor that's making it look bad is usually under $200. Replacing the wrong one is an expensive way to learn that.
Real exhaust diagnosis uses a scan tool, data-log of O2 sensor behavior, exhaust back-pressure measurement, and a physical inspection of the full system from manifold to tailpipe. We do all four before we quote any repair.
Sometimes the finding is a rusted-through pipe or a failed flex joint and the repair is modest. Sometimes it is the converter, and we document exactly why. Either way, you know what you're paying for.
